Candle Care and Safety
At Luz Yourself Candles, your safety and enjoyment are of utmost importance to us. To ensure a delightful and safe burning experience, here are some essential tips on candle care and safety
-
Trim the Wick
Before each use, trim the candle's wick to approximately 1/4 inch to promote a clean and even burn. A longer wick can lead to excessive soot and uneven burning, affecting both the candle's performance and the air quality in your space.
-
Avoid Tunneling
To prevent tunneling, allow your candle's wax to melt and pool evenly to the edge of the container during each burn. This process, known as "memory burning," ensures that the entire surface of the candle is utilized and prevents the formation of tunnel-like depressions.
-
First Burn Matters
During the first burn, allow your candle to stay lit until the entire top layer of wax becomes liquid. This process may take a few hours- usually we recommend a 2 hour minimum first burn, it ensures that your candle will burn evenly throughout its lifespan.
-
Burn Time
To avoid overheating and ensure the longevity of your candle, limit each burn session to a maximum of 3-4 hours. It's best to extinguish the flame when the wax reaches approximately 1/2 inch from the bottom of the container.
-
Safe Placement
Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, flammable materials, and out of reach of children and pets. Ensure that there are no objects above the candle that could catch fire.
-
Extinguishing the Flame
We recommend using a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame gently. While not everyone may have a candle snuffer at hand, we advise against using the lid of the container to extinguish the flame. Instead, you can blow out the candle gently, but be mindful to do so with care to avoid smoke and hot wax splatter.
-
Wait for Cooling
Allow the candle to cool before moving it. The container may become hot during burning, so it's essential to exercise caution while handling the candle.
-
While Lit
Avoid Moving Candles While Lit. Never move a lit candle. Extinguish the flame and allow the wax to solidify before moving the candle to a new location.
By following these candle care and safety practices, you can make the most of your Luz Yourself Candles and enjoy a safe, soothing, and delightful candle-burning experience. Your well-being and the longevity of your candles are at the heart of our mission, and we hope these tips enhance your moments of relaxation and reflection with our handcrafted creations.
